Mercury in Pisces

Friday March 14, 2008

It's nearly St. Patrick's Day, so try to imagine a group of friends along the parade route with twelve different Mercury signs. As the intricate receptor of thought, images and sound, each Mercury takes in the scene in a unique way. The sensate Taurus smells something tasty, and wonders where to get a hot pretzel. Mercury in Cancer gets sentimental listening to the bagpipes, while Scorpio wonders what's under the kilt. Our particular Mercury sign determines what we're captivated by and the perceptions we create from such an event.

Mercury moves into Pisces today, and as a transit, it sets a more emotional-imaginative mood. Conversations go a little deeper, and veer off into whimsical tangents. This Mercury is a kindly thinker, and that could soften people in the checkout line. At the parade, Mercury in Pisces takes in a dizzying mix of sights and sounds, while also picking up layers of psychic impressions. They may return with a poem or sound collage that conveys the essence of what they saw. Irish writer James Joyce had this Mercury, and his writing presents the vivid psychic reality of his characters. His style has been called kaleidoscopic, a word used a lot when talking about the Pisces experience.

With Saturn currently in opposition to the stellium of Pisces planets, the urge to create may meet Virgo's fear of being imperfect. A quote from Joyce then seems timely: "A man of genius makes no mistakes; his errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery.”
