Don't Mess with the Bull

Friday July 25, 2008

When the rages of Taurus reach the surface, it's a physical display of intense, densely felt emotion that can't be stuffed back inside. In this article on Aquarian Christian Bale, I mentioned his dangerous Mars in Taurus, in a tense square to his Sun, Mercury and Jupiter. His Moon (sense of emotional security) is also in Taurus, and this causes him to overreact when his sense of stability (Taurus) is threatened. We can't know the details of a complex family drama, but we do know he was arrested after his Mother and sister claimed he assaulted them. An article in the Sun UK says it was over money (a big Taurean trigger point). He's clearly tormented by the Aquarian-Taurus square, which shows up in his public persona, by turns cool and surly, and has sent him into incapacitating private depressions.

If you've been around Mars in Taurus, you know the fury that simmers below the placid exterior. For Christian Bale, the many volatile aspects in his birth chart means that intensity is never far from the surface, and needs somewhere to go. The pressure of the square demands something new be created, as all that energy builds to a peak. His roles are often a blending of mental (air) and physical extremes (earth), and he needs to play that out, live that tension on screen to understand it. Without water signs, and only a little fire in his chart, he's prone to swinging between the two in real life -- from soaring above it all and living in his head (the curse of the air sign) to giving in to the lowest animal urges of bullying, stubbornness. Let's hope he stays busy in roles that test his physical mettle, and keep the mental wheels turning. He's one of my favorite actors, partly because he dares to explore dark territory of the psyche.

One TV NZ article has unnamed friends saying that the death of Heath Ledger in January sent him into a downward spiral. The Batman co-stars spent time together, and for someone with zero water sign planets, Ledger's emotional well of seven, was likely soothing to be around. "You complete me," he says to Ledger's Joker in the movie. Some red carpet watchers say Bale didn't make eye contact or crack a smile at the premiere. The abyss created when emotions are out of reach is not something to take lightly, and can be especially deadly for men. His struggles show that the hardest lessons of the birth chart are not softened by fame or fortune, and that the built-in tensions of his cosmic blueprint are his alone to manage and channel, over time.
