The Dalai Lama Takes a Rest

Thursday August 28, 2008
My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.

His Holiness is canceling some trips due to exhaustion, and the latest news is that he's been hospitalized. He's suffering from a common Cancer (his birthday is July 6th) complaint, a stomach ache. But, true to form, he was giggling on the way to the examination room. When transiting Saturn moves over the Moon, it's been known to create deserty, forlorn times. For an already sober, dry Virgo Moon, Saturn's presence can lead to a parched inner landscape. The chart of His Holiness has Moon-Neptune conjunct in Virgo. He's in need of some downtime. For the past few years, he's kept up a travel schedule to rival the world tour of another visibly bereft Virgo Moon, Madonna.

The Dalai Lama turned 73 this year, though the Aquarius Papers celebrated his 617th year of "unbroken consciousness," since his memory goes back in time to 1391. Last night, I watched a video on ethics and the world crisis, a kind of panel discussion with cultural visionaries and the Dalai Lama. He had no specific ideas about saving the world, and his responses were simple. His smiling presence is what inspires, and the persistent message of peace he embodies.

At the end, the moderator, Robert Thurman, offered condolences about the suffering of the people in Tibet. The Moon represents home and soul-level roots. The Dalai Lama's own Saturn is in the opposite sign, Pisces (mysticism), in the 9th house of travel, knowledge and teaching. It's a built-in opposition, with the harsh lessons-limits-borders of Saturn placing him outside his homeland at a young age. But through this restriction, he's been able spread his message of compassion (Pisces), by traveling to all corners of the globe. He has to be disciplined (Saturn) with his message, because the Chinese authorities watch him closely. As the spiritual leader-in-exile, whatever the Dalai Lama says has repercussions for the six million that still live in his homeland. He's carrying quite a heavy soul load, even for a transcendent being. It's worth noting that Uranus is in Pisces, opening the door to shockwave events that awaken the collective to his simple message of the open heart.

Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend - or a meaningful day. The Dalai Lama

Once of the best books I ever read…Ethics for the New Millineum by the Dalai Lama.

I read that, too — great book. I know, Cat, you’re a Virgo Moon, since you’re my sister and I’ve seen your chart.
So, here are some suggestions for those Saturn-Moon dried up emotionally times, which it’s important to remember, are always temporary.
Spend time near the water. Put a little waterfall in your home. Take a long soak with lavender. Be with those that love you unconditionally. Keep a rose quartz in your pocket. Put a gardenia in your hair. Drink lots of water. Listen to the sounds of a rainstorm. Resolve to nurture yourself through this, or any hard transit. As Gregg Allman says, ‘everybody has their 40 miles of bad road.’
