Love Never Dies

Tuesday September 23, 2008

As Venus moves from Libra to Scorpio, the poised and polished facade cracks open to reveal what's stirring in the soulful depths. The easy small talk is dropped, and real conversations happen, in brooding, secretive tones, or in surges, like a red-faced outburst. The mood is wary, but the emotional undercurrents gain power and can overwhelm with their intensity. Venus' relating style here has precision for hidden truths that can be healing, when it draws what's shadowy into the light. At its best, Venus in this sign has the moral courage to face demons, fears, sadness, anxiety, and persevere through what feels like a struggle between life and death.

Scorpio is about experiencing the soul of another, and sharing our own, and standing together at the precipice, stripped of certainties, is where you'll find it. There can be a huge catharsis, a purge of psychic debris, that changes your whole life. Scorpio rules the 8th house of sex and death (don't say taxes!), and this Venus transit invites surrender, to do as the Sufi's do, and "die many times before you die." In Michael St. Clair's article, Into the Void, he reminds readers that no matter what happens, we live on. For the spirit/soul there is no death. The material world was created to endure transformative cycles, to spring forth, decay and renew itself.

Venus arrives in Scorpio just in time. Who do you tell about your secret fears and longings? When things fall apart, who can you bare your soul to? My Dad died last year, and before that, my Mom and I reached across the spiritual divide and prayed over him many times. She said, "Yea, though Jim walks through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, he will fear no evil, for thou art with him." To see this former football star reach out to me with shaking, fragile arms, was to witness the deterioration part of the journey. We happen to be living in the end times, but it doesn't mean there's no beginning afterwards. We fear the dark unknown, when we lose touch with the infinite spirit part that dies and is reborn. With Venus here, we're apt to seek out those that we'd trust with our lives, and our little and big deaths for that matter. Get with those who've got your back, and take refuge in the ties that are real to the depths.

Thanks for this article. I have a natal Venus in scorpio and I really know what it means. I appreciate wow you developed a story around life and death issues – it is very accurate and true – at least in my case.
Thanks, E.

Hi Eve,
I’ve got Pluto (with Uranus) in the 7th, so all my r-ships are intense…probably in a similar way to Venus Scorpio. The death-rebirth being integrated into relationships. Had a break up that nearly ‘killed’ me, for example….psychically, spiritually, emotionally. But brought the essence of the self out more through that dark night of the soul process. It’s about trusting another with your ’soul’, obsession, demons, dark side — will you still love me if I show my shadow? Thanks for your comment!
