The Beauty of Courage
I've always admired author Naomi Wolf, especially the last few years, to see her standing up so publicly to try to save our democracy, in what could be America's darkest hour yet. I don't have a birth time, but she's a Scorpio born on November 12, 1962. She's got a stellium in Scorpio (Sun, Venus, Neptune and Mercury), and a curious, intellectual Gemini Moon. She speaks with the conviction of a patriot that doesn't want to give up on the country, trying to churn up the decaying and lifeless surface culture to find what's vital underneath. She employs serious Scorpiocity to dig deep into our revolutionary founding, finds the beautiful essence of that vision, and presents it in her inspiring books and speeches.
She's not willing to give America up for dead, and boldly exposes the spooky national shadows, to root out the trouble spots, and bring them to light. She's magnetizing and sultry (Scorpio) and exudes a natural warmth in the spotlight (Mars in Leo). But it's the fearlessness and sincerity of heart she's showing, to try to rouse us to action, that's truly beautiful to witness.
In this recent interview, now a hit on YouTube, she talks about her new book, Give Me Liberty, which is meant to inspire patriots to action. On America's founding generation, she says, Ordinary Americans were so enraged by this assault on their liberties, that they would go to the tax collectors' (of George III) homes and dismantle these mansions brick by brick....and leave not a brick standing. To me, we're seeing echoes of that today, with CEO's confronted on their golden parachutes as taxpayers are burdened with their toxic debt, and the suffocating sense that the police state is closing in. Says Naomi, The founding generation knew how terrifying a standing army was...nonetheless ordinary people rose up again and again.
As Pluto comes 'round to Capricorn again, mirroring events from that time have more than a few wondering if we'll see a resurgence coming from the depths of our revolutionary roots. Scorpio Naomi Wolf takes us into the dark places, while nourishing the seeds of liberty that were so strong in 1776. That's the rebirth that's promised, on the other side of our national Pluto return, if we keep our faith in the essence of that vision.

Thanks to Jean of Scorpios for Hilary for sending in the Lyrics to the Todd Rundgren Song, Bardo. So timely, as we head into a time of uncertainty, with the sense that we’ll be tested in ways we can’t imagine yet.
Bardo
It’s been easy until now
But you’ll likely question how
You have traveled far, it’s true
But there’s much more left to do
For it’s time to pay the toll
And we never know the sum of what we owe
You can’t go back from where you came
You must move on and face the flame
Of the last bardo
You can pray unto your god
But your prayers will bring you naught
For in here you bear the scar
Of exactly what you are
It matters not what you believe
And it matters even less what you think you know
So put on your little show
But no further will you go
Til you pass the last bardo
You will surrender all you hide
And be cleansed and purified
And of you burden you’ll be free
If it takes eternity in the last bardo
Thank you for printing the lyrics. I saw Todd Rundgren in San Francisco in July 08 and just last night (7 Nov 08) in Edinburgh, Scotland. Both times he played ‘Bardo’ and last night for the first time, I heard the lyrics clearly. My sister died last spring and the study and hope of understanding the concept of ‘bardos’ has incalculable meaning to me now.
Thanks Electra, that seems like a remarkable serendipity….I’m sure it is coming to you, so you’ll find some comfort through your grief.
