Mercury and the Flip Side
Nearly every day, we see media images of distraught traders on the floor, surrounded by the matrix-y brain of our global finance system. These type-A worker bees in blue coats and a number on the sleeve are meant to be mirrors of the anguish of a troubled economy. But there's a flip side to what's happening. With Mercury in retrograde in Libra, we're seeing that there's more than one side to the story. That there's an opportunity in this crisis, to envision a system that doesn't destroy all life, and put profit before people.
The worst job I ever had was waking up at 4 a.m. to work as a temp for a brokerage house in San Francisco. Office building air with sealed windows, grey serious dress, and all persons totally locked into the numbers and graphs on the papers. The brokers were Gods. I knew behind all of these figures were communities and earth resources. The word amoral came to mind. With the rise of unrestrained corporate power, it might now be called something else. America's gung-ho capitalism has become a kind of fundamentalism, a dogmatic belief in the right to accumulate obscene wealth, with no awareness of its impact on others, society, and the Earth.
As Pluto strips and exposes rigid belief systems (Sagittarius), what we're seeing may be the end of unrestrained global plundering. We all know it could get worse, before it gets better. The shakedown is going to hit average workers the hardest, not those in the know that see it coming. So, I say, lonely trader, step out of the stress vice, get out and breathe the fresh air, put your hands in the dirt....get a green job. Or better yet, use your business genius to create them.
