Making Obama Real

Tuesday December 2, 2008

Like a lot of people, I was ecstatic on election night. And that's after being dis-illusioned about Obama during the primaries. Not long after that, I declared myself a trans-partisan. Since then, I've gone further and decided to think galactically and act locally. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy to see America overcome a racial hurdle, and sense there's something innately good about him. But I quickly realized that his actions don't match his words about real change. And something is dangerously shadowy about his background. What inspired me on election night was the surge of hope among the American people and the world. There's a sense that The People are awakening to new possibilities.

In her brave and lucid piece Winter of Our Discontent, Jessica Murray puts to words a lot of my own hopes and fears about Obama as president. We're in danger of seeing what we want to see. It's especially potent with fantasy-maker Neptune moving toward a conjunction with the US Moon in the Spring, giving us all rose-colored glasses. It's not the time to go to sleep as citizens.

At the risk of bursting more bubbles, he's picking the same old paradigmers, cheerleaders for the perpetual war economy that has risen so hideously in our time. As Murray points out, he's picking architects of the Clinton-era deregulation free-for-all and those that sent all our jobs overseas. The names mentioned as his advisors are embeds of the power elite, those groups that are just cresting into awareness. I've got a strong sense that Pluto in Capricorn will expose and draw out the shadow governments that reportedly recycle puppets back and forth. I predict we'll learn who is really in control, where the lost trillions go, and their vision, which might have something to do with further consolidating wealth at the top of the pyramid.

Lately, I've been thinking of the event that never leaves my thoughts for long. As an eye-witness, the national tragedy of September 11th was a political initiation that changed me forever. As a deeply intuitive person and somewhat politically aware, I knew right away that something was very wrong with the story. I always felt, and still feel, a great loss of what might have been had we gone down the other path. But I recently had the epiphany that two paths diverged at that time -- one was the path our leaders took to war, and the other was the path many citizens took toward understanding our place in the world. Around the time of the election, the surge of world unity I felt had echoes from those early days after that pivotal day in history. Intuitively, I sense that the collective longing for peace and global understanding, the awakening of Uranus in (one heart) Pisces, has the power to truly change things.

Murray writes, There is no doubt that he has been plucked by destiny to be the man of the hour. But enshrining him as a paragon of leadership misses the point of the Saturn-Uranus opposition: that no one man can take us where we need to go. Only a movement can do this. They say we get the leaders we deserve, and that's another reason to be hopeful. The potential of Obama being real is there. Just as we will be liberating ourselves from societal mind control, black budgets (is that not Pluto Capricorn to a T?), and the hidden elite, so can he be liberated. As the first leader from the Pluto in Virgo generation, with a history of community organizing, he's got the soul of a public servant. We can make Obama real by demanding integrity of leaders, and by living it ourselves. But there's also a rising tide that can't be held back, and that's the awakening of the people. Your thoughts on this are welcome.....

Hi Molly~~

Interesting pieces, yours and Jessica Murray’s, thanks!

I was pro-Clinton anti-Obama for most of the primary season (after Kucinich, then Edwards withdrew early on). It was only after Hillary Clinton’s speech after Obama’s nomination at the Convention that I changed horses (so to speak). I’ve gradually found myself very much impressed with Obama. I am not bothered by his picks for cabinet positions, to me this just shows solid judgment. As he has said, any change will come from him – I tend to believe him. I don’t think we’ve seen the real Obama yet, and I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised (at least if we’re on the left, we will).

I think that whatever plans he has for the military and Iraq/Afghanistan will have been formed with eventual withdrawal in mind. He didn’t get us into the wars, and he wouldn’t have, but that does not mean he can just turn things all around in the blink of an eye. I trust his judgment and that of his colleagues.

The point about him bringing “the old guard back in” has been well covered by the talking heads. The response is that now isn’t the time to bring brand new people into the administration, there are too many serious issues to be addressed- and quickly. These people were part of the only experieced Democratic administration in the last 30 years. He needs experienced heads, and he is not shy of bringing them in. He knows what he promised, and I feel he’s the type to keep his promises, but it can’t be done in one fell swoop.

I think the best thing his supporters, of all stripes, can do is to have faith in him, give him a chance, stand back a while, and not start dragging him down before he’s even inaugurated.

Hi Twilight,
I like your optimism and am happy you commented. :)
The point I wanted to make here is that the election gave me faith in the American people, and the greater world community. I think having faith in leaders and standing back has gotten us in a deep moral abyss and the fleecing of the national treasury. I would instead hope that people get involved, begin to think critically about whether the words match the actions, question these decisions made on our behalf, and take an active role in the process.
I also see it as a metaphysical shift, thinking of the Hopi’s saying about ‘don’t look to the leaders.’ I think it’s time for the collective, but not in the usual way we talk about left, right and moderates. It’s the evening of the playing field, where every voice is valued, conflicts of interest are no longer tolerated, ethics kick in, due to the evolution of consciousness. The promise of that is what gives me hope.

As a voice from the Pluto Uranus in Virgo oppose Saturn in Pisces generation you have summarize brilliantly the silence so often mistaken for ignorance. I was born in 1965 and remember the violence of the civil rights movement, influenced by the colorful flower power of the 70’s and fully realizing money is power in the 80’s along with the power of technology in the 90s and what the power of hate is with 9/11.
As part of the Pluto Uranus Virgo / Saturn Pisces generation we have had a great opportunity to witness and experience in full spectrum the various aspects of “power”. I’ve come to realize it is not the color of your skin, the color of your cause, the color of hate, the color of your ipod or the color of money that is “power” it is the light within us all that empowers us from the inside out. Something I’ve always known but struggled in silence as the world struggled to find its power source.

I think that Barak Obama (as a leader from Pluto Virgo generation ) greatly speaks to our inner light and in doing so has empowered us all to “be the change.” Should he “give” power to those who mismanage it might be his greatest strategy in building this nation to be better because we as a nation have a newfound empowerment and even greater awareness to not allow mismanaged “power”. One must lift the rug in order to clean under it.

As a Pluto Virgo leader I’m confident he knows what all of us born in the 60’s know. Because of the Pluto / Uranus oppose Saturn we grew up in, we know more than any other generation: no one can make you powerless without your permission to do so.

I relate to what you’re saying, as part of that generation (not Saturn Pisces, but the late sixties). It was so painful to grow up watching the destruction of the environment, and see recently what the power of hate, as you call it, has done. I see our generation (and I’m talking as Pluto/Uranus conjunct, too, 1967) as the ones that can lead this mass awakening toward the goal of healing from that and rebuilding culture that’s viable because it’s based on nature’s systems, not as some separate thing we visit once in a while. We didn’t grow up on hours and hours of tv, computers, , standardized testing, cell phones, video games and genetically modified food. We can think critically, while understanding the metaphysical side of things. A lot of us are healers already. We’ve got some sense of wholeness to share, of mind-body-spirit. And maybe we had to see, and make silent observations so we know what we don’t want, and power that doesn’t work.
I had the thought that we got Obama because of eight years of darkness — the light was kindled all those years. And perhaps that momentum can’t be stopped, and won’t allow for mismanaged power. I haven’t known how to integrate his choices (especially the bail-out), with who I want him to be — and that’s the paradox for me, personally that will be revealed over time. I’m going to ponder what you’ve said. I’m hoping the channels are right that he’s the reincarnation of Lincoln, and is biding his time until he’s inaugurated. :)
He does radiate a silent dignity that will show the contrast of anything that’s less than that beside it. Either way, it is an exciting time to be alive….and the momentum is there for big change, real change.
It’s interesting to think that spark is back, from the late sixties…I know a lot of people feel it. It feels like a second chance, but one that people are ready for, ’cause we are armed with wisdom about what’s not going to work.

Here’ s more on Pluto in Virgo (1958-1971) from Kevin Burk’s book Understanding the Birth Chart. I stumbled onto it, and thought it rang true for what we were discussing about Obama.
With Pluto in Virgo, a mutable earth sign, the societal transformations involved in changes and power struggles concerning the health of the planet and the conservation of our natural resources. During the Pluto in Virgo period, we saw the formation of ecological groups, and a rise in awareness of how we have been poisoning and polluting our planet. The Pluto in virgo generation is also currently involved in making changes in health care, as well as changes in how each of us serves and supports the community.

It’s me again — I just watched Regina Meredith on the Fifth Element at
Conscious Media Network talking specifically about Obama. She’s had people on her show that have talked with him about the potential for blackmail (shadowy past) or keeping dangerous enemies at hand in his cabinet. She says he’s an archetypal soul that thinks he can handle ‘keeping his friends close and his enemies closer.’ Not unlike what Alicia said about lifting the rug to sweep under it.
That he’s a soul with many lifetimes of being in power, that has the ability to evoke a high vibe from the people. He has a lot of personal power to deal with the impossible position he’s going into. The matrix changed with his election because of the response of the people. But that we have to rise up to what we ourselves set in motion. It’s a good interview, which is available to watch with a small donation. Great site — it’s worth it.
