Re-Creating The World
For the next while, the two hot-heads of the galaxy, Mars and Pluto are conjunct. This ignites the Plutonian drive to transform with passion and urgency. Pluto's lessons can bring us to our knees, and we're seeing breakdowns that are beyond any one person's personal control. If you've ever been whacked by Pluto, you know that it's a journey to the underworld, and involves hitting bottom. We seem to be moving through a collective dark night of the soul, a disintegration of structures that have been the glue that holds society together. But what's so epic about this time, is that it's a chance to re-create our world from the bottom up.
In her book 2012 and the Galactic Center Christine Page writes about a meeting with her own mentor, who described how people would react to the dissolution of the old. He drew numbers in the sand: 40, 40, 15, 5. In his estimation, 40 percent will instantly recreate what has just been swept away. Another 40 percent, unaware that they have a choice, will find that the challenge of the void is too much for them and they will instantly fall asleep or become unconscious mentally. Fifteen percent will become confused, which will be expressed as irritation, frustration and disorientation, and 5 percent will understand, recognizing the opportunity to be vanguards and light bearers of a new creative cycle, both for themselves and for the world in general.
We're living in epic times, when being your best self, as Oprah says, dovetails with being part of this crossroads of humanity. This transit can bring out the inner strength you need to take your mental, spiritual and physical health to the next level. It can bring on the deep soul searching that takes you to the bottom of your own life structures. Donna Cunningham calls today's Mars-Pluto conjunction a manifestation magnet, when you get to experience some of that high achieving, deeply rooted Capricorn-style momentum. Look to planets or the house where this transit is exploding for insights about how it's likely to play out.
Many are finding it hard to see the path ahead, and even those that usually have a sense of direction are seeing the hands on the inner compass spinning around wildly. In her AstroFlash report, Barbara Hand Clow writes about this as an unreal time, maybe how the Atlanteans felt when their world was submerged. In the challenge of the Void, the time of free-falling can be unsettling as all get-out. The pain of Pluto is exaggerated when there's resistance to what's being destroyed. So many are facing tests of how much inner resolve we can muster, and how quickly we can let go of what's falling down around us. The old way of doing things is clearly in its death throes. It's a time to dig deep for real faith, the kind that can be the light in a seemingly dark time.

Molly,
Your blog is a really refreshing read for me. On a regular basis, I find comfort in your truth telling. Thanks.
I, too, see us at a great crossroads, but feel conflict between aspects of my chart and my Self’s tendencies- the optimism of my Libra sun and various planets seem at odds with my moon and rising Scorpio, which sees much more of the darkness at hand. It is a frightening and potentially magical time, to be sure.
that’s the best feedback ever, thank you so much.
Page writes about Libra, emphasizing the masculine dynamism of the lover, that “it takes deep self love to choose to face those parts of the self that have become separated and which, even now, are languishing in the darkness.’
You might already know that with the cardinal cross of 2010, you’ll be ‘activated’ especially with the Saturn over your Sun transit. And then all that instinct for the darkness can be expressed in a disciplined way through your Sun. Page writes that Libra has the quality of “conscious appreciation of the creative plan.’ And even if things look grim, you can see the big picture….or see how to transmute the darkness.
I have s. node Scorp, so I feel real tuned into the darkness, too, and have to be careful to find that balance. But it does seem that to move forward, we have to be awake to what is, even if it’s dark. I liked that when I read it recently — Awake, not afraid. That seems to be one of the lessons of our time, eh? be well Bethany…and thanks again for your comment.
Have you seen/read the new Reality Sandwich anthology? Many excellent essays on what the future may hold.

wow, I was just checking that out on Amazon yesterday. I’ll have to act on your recommendation now. I saw that Daniel Pinchbeck writes on astrology in one essay, with a look at Rick Tarnas’ Cosmos and Psyche. Thanks for the tip there…happy new year to you.
