After the civil war in the South, when confederate money was worthless, the only thing of value left for some was the family silver. It's macabre but true, that the silver service would be hidden under the bones of ancestors in tombs, to hide it from the invading Union army.
The poor man's gold or silver, and gold itself are considered two safe havens for a time when a currency's value plummets. And in a Dec 2nd interview on Gold Seek.com, top Wall Street astrologer Arch Crawford warns that all fiat money eventually goes to zero. Fiat Money, comes from a Latin word fiat which Wiki tells us means let it be done - it's a currency that has value because the government decrees it to have value.
Arch's financial astrology is found at Crawford Perspectives. He's got a record of accurately predicting the market trends, so I wanted to alert readers to his stark warning of, well, no way to sugarcoat it, economic armageddon. He's seeing a possible crash at the upcoming eclipse (Dec 10th), but if not then, total crash mode by the middle of next year (2012).
He's the second guest on the program beginning around the 37 minute mark (see link above). Among other tips, he says, "I've been recommending to be long on metals, to have cash at home, so if the banks close, you can last for a few weeks and to have dried food for a year or two. Whatever comes along, I want to be prepared."
Something big will happen, he says, at the upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse, with sudden change planet Uranus stationing direct. "More earthquakes," he says, "in the economy as well. If there's going to be some economic armageddon point in the next 4 months, then that will be it. Then if not, then it could be a natural occurrence. I'm watching for that weekend things for thing to go on."
Arch notes there's a grand trine in earth again (Pluto-Jupiter-Mars) in March that could give the established markets some bolstering. But it's just a matter of time before there's a resetting of the measures by which we trade our real goods and services. The mythologist John Lash has described it in astronomical myth as the Parable of the Scales, with the left pan of the Scales (measures) being knocked out of balance, and due for a re-set.
I've never tried dried food, but another way to go is cultivating your own crops, or making alliances with local producers. I've lived and worked on an organic farm for almost two years now, but know it's not for everyone! If you do buy food stores, I recommend having things you already buy and enjoy, just in greater abundance and long expiration dates.
And silver coins, or gold if you're there financially, make great Christmas or Hanukkah gifts. I gave Crazy Horse coins from Lakota Silver to relatives last year, and it's cool to see a gift actually go up in value!
If we take a look around us, we see a deconstruction of the old, and all the upheaval that goes with it. As we approach a Full Moon and eclipse in Gemini, the sign of paradox, there's also innovation and the birth of the new, as well as the dying of the old. I think it's wise to listen to financial astrologers like Arch Crawford, to get commonsensical tips for the transition period. But whenever I freak out about the economy, I remember the squirrel Medicine card, and it's message of a safe place to put your gatherings. "This safe place is an untroubled heart and mind, and that which is gathered to put in this place is wisdom and caring."
