Keira Knightley's TV-less lifestyle made headlines in the Telegraph UK. It's a radical move in some circles and one she made five years ago, after, she told the major paper, "she became tired of the constant diet of 'mindless' programmes and reality television shows."
Keira Knightley is an early Aries (March 26), with Venus and Mercury nearly conjunct in Aries as well. Her vital 5 degree Aries Sun has a date with the planet of the big universal mind, Uranus, in mid-April. As a very lit up rebel Aries, her example can inspire others to find the juice in real life, as an actor not a spectator.
The trance of television is not easy to break, with its illusion of a shared world. I know from doing this myself at about the same age as Keira, that it takes enormous will power and trust that there's another way to live. But the rewards for this breakthrough are priceless. Says Keira, "So I realized that hours of my life were going by watching mindless stuff when I wondered what I could do with my life if I didn't watch TV for four hours a night."
A trend with Uranus in Aries, is having breakthroughs that shake you free from social conditioning. It's daring to make yourself the star of the show. And honoring yourself as an originator of ideas and impressions, instead of passively receiving. Keira Knightley is blazing a trail here, as a true Aries pioneer. What's your take on this? Do you have an experience of breaking free of TV?

I’ve been free from TV for about 3 years now. It’s actually not just TV… its most news media, books and movies. I stay connected through some internet and lots of music. It wasn’t a planned course of action, it just seems to be what I’ve needed to do. I learned awhile ago, all of our answers are within. I guess I took that advice and ran with it. In my attempts to quiet myself, I began to notice how much surrounding ‘noise’ I was letting go of in the process. I have learned the movie that surrounds me by REAL life, is way more intricate, intimate, connected and meaningful than anything on TV. Thanks for your column… in my state of quiet, I appreciate the insight that helps me navigate through. One of the few things I read with regularity.
Thanks for that fast comment Renie! I quit TV when I was 27, same age that Keira did, and didn’t own a TV for many years. Now I have one for watching movies and some series’ that I hear are good (like Downton Abbey), but I did need and want to make a break from the programming, and that was hard for me, having been raised with it, like most people.
One of my intents for 2012 is MORE MUSIC! I am wanting most of all to connect to the pulse of the Earth, as it changes, and spend a lot of time outside. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And your kind words about the blog, really appreciate it.
It ’ s so good to be free of watching TV…and breaking free of Facebook has the same feeling of freedom .
Connecting with the pulse of the Earth…. I like it! In my experience, while going ‘in’ and helping others ‘go in’, I have found the deepest, most profound connections begin by connecting with our own Essence. In truly finding ones own pulse first, so to speak, we are then able to tap into that Earthly, Universal Pulse that surrounds us. But it essential to start from within, otherwise, it is likely to be limited. Clearing the static of TV and other noise really helped me get clear on what it is I was hearing/feeling from myself. Times are changing… radically. It feels important to match those changes from within. Thanks for the chance to reflect on this this morning.
Acquagirl – I find it freeing to be sans FB also. Was just thinking about triple Aquarius Susun Weed, who never allows any external noise, not even radio — radically tuning in to her own station and what it’s receiving.
As we tune out the external noise, the voice within grows stronger.
Renie – I was going to post on this, but your comment reminds me to share Gregg Braden on
Something Big is About to Happen. It’s on the Earth’s changing magnetism and our response to it, as electromagnetic beings. Lately I have felt a lot of energy shifts and so much rising for healing. I know my friend in Oz has felt the same way — you could call it strange. But maybe because it just feels so different……we are riding the waves now – shockwaves, as I’ve heard them called. Better to be clear of noise, to ride the waves.
Gregg Braden is so right on! God Eternal Within The Body.
My Goodness… I could go on and on and on. This topic fascinates me. Consciousness that is.
In my experience and learning and healing, the most overlooked piece on this subject is very basic, yet a complex system that is within our body. The Fascial System, aka Connective Tissue. It is my full belief that unlocking this system — (a system, that when restricted leads to many physical implications… which is still grossly overlooked by traditional health care, but that is for another discussion
— holds the key to many of the mysteries involving Consciousness.
I tell people all day long in my practice… Its not called CONNECTIVE Tissue for nothing. I think the John Barnes approach to Myofascial Release would interest you, Molly. Check it out if you have time. Thanks for the GB video… very timely this morning!
Stopped watching Television for 10 years now and never missed all this mindless stuff to blurr your mind. There are other ways of celebrating your life like reading, painting, ceramics, gardening, being in nature, a good walk every day. Worth trying it.
I turned the TV off almost 20 years ago. Had it for a few years when my grandmother lived with me, fortunately she only watched a few game shows and a little news. After her passing at 98, the TV is off again. Yesterday I didn’t even turn the computer on. I went kayaking, helped a neighbor with some cooking and played games with friends. I had a wonderful day. I seldom even turn the radio on. I love listening to the sounds of the earth and nature.
Thanks for this vital informational blog and everyone’s comments. At a younger youthful age, television wasn’t as powerful as it is now. All media is regulated for their programming use for viewers materialism attachments. Never became hooked on any paticular program. Do watch it with conscious mindfulness, not reacting but with inner laughter. All those colorful pixels dancing boundlessly projectering from within displaying on the outer mindscape.
Iam also Aries born on the 22th of march . I stopped watching TV when a child and my mother always reproached me “you have no family spirit” because I didn’t want to sit before the screen with them. I almost considered TV as a personal ennemy that prevents people from being together and sharing real things. I am used to say that MY life is the best film.
