This retrograde is about peeling the onion, to get to the root causes of how things (and we) are. Looking at the chart for the Scorpio new Moon tomorrow, one stand-out aspect is a Mercury-Neptune square. Mercury is retrograde in this super new Moon moment, at 0 degrees Sagittarius. This looks like an initiation -- to have old perception unsettled, and to invite travel in new areas.
This square is in Sagittarius and Pisces, mutable signs both originally ruled by Jupiter, the planet of fantastic voyages both inner and outer. It initiates deeper investigation, as Mercury goes into Scorpio, a sign of seeing to the raw (and sometimes dangerously pressurized) root.
Serendipitously, I've been re-reading Earth by Barbara Marciniak, written nearly twenty years ago (1995), as channeled through the Pleiadians. In one chapter, the message is about toxicity ( Scorpio's concern) on Earth, from radioactive and other waste, but also "from the collective dumping of human anger."
This is great from the Pleiadians: "We remind you that you create your own reality and that the collective anger you feel has to do with the discrediting of your imagination. Feel that for a few moments. Imagination is the key to brilliance, to unifying conceptualizations, and to bringing ideas into manifestation. When was the last time you were encouraged on a regular basis to invest in your own imagination? You rob yourself of the inherent qualities through which you can save yourselves, change yourselves, and redefine freedom. Imagination is, indeed, a ticket to ride on the mercurial carnival of Earth."
This Mercury-Neptune square, with Mercury in retrograde, is a big influence at the eclipse (November 13th). The truth can be slippery now. There are dangers of being driven by the unprocessed toxins (anger), to communicate self-righteously, or to jump to conclusions. On the other hand, Neptune, in this square, can dissolve the usual sense of certainty -- this creates an odd sense of suspension, sometimes self-doubt or vulnerability. But it can also be exciting, with a wall of perception dissolving, to reveal so much more to know and be curious about.
In that sense of fluid perception, the breakthrough can happen ( Sagittarius rules spiritual breakthroughs). The freer imagination can journey into the psychic past, and dig out the essence --- the poetry and meaning of what's been experienced. I'm humbled by my own befuddlement, but also know it's a chance to see with new eyes. Let's see where it takes us.
