Self-Authorized "to Grow" with Mars in Capricorn

By November 16, 2012

Follow me on:

The raw jolts of Mars are in the capable hands of Capricorn now through December 25th. Symbolically, this helps us act and move in effective ways, and in synch with the reality of the physical surroundings. That may sound like a no-brainer, but how many of us spend the whole day in our heads or in a virtual world? This is a great time to build up or clear out, tend to your body's constitution, take stock of resources, and push through major obstacles.

Armand Diaz of Integral Astrology has keen insight on the weekend's Mars launch (as seen on Facebook): "The Capricorn moon paves the way for Mars, who enters the sign of the Sea Goat tonight at 9:36p EST. But we don't have to wait until evening for things to get moving, as Luna will be lighting up the Uranus-Pluto square all day, pushing us into action. Mars in the last degree of Sagittarius can lead to extreme polarizing around beliefs and opinions, and combined with the cardinal energy of the moon, going a bit too far could be the order of the day. Charge ahead! (or lay low)."

That last tip could apply all month, as Mars in this sign shows us the power of conserving energy, for when the time is right. Capricorn is an earth sign, so we could say Mars here is wise, grounded action. Mars will charge up the Uranus-Pluto square in the Nov 23 to 27th time frame. If we see this Uranus-Pluto square as both destructive and creative, a skillful use of Mars hasten what needs to be broken down, and acts to firm up what's emerging as solidly part of the new foundation.

Mars in cardinal earth reminds me that the etymology of the word author is autor "father," from the Old French auctor, acteor "author, originator, creator instigator and from Latin auctorem "enlarger, founder, master, leader," with a literal meaning, "one who causes to grow." Many of these harken to Capricorn, and roll out to self-authorized, being an authority, along with authoritarianism and 'the authorities." This interesting word association first came by way of another Gemini Moon logophile and author, April Elliott Kent of Big Sky Astrology.

The message here, that I'm weaving symbolically, is that this Mars transit is a great time to grow things, and be the authority in your life. I've heard it suggested that the rise of authoritarianism has a direct link to people becoming passive, unable to "do" for themselves, forgetting that they're creative beings. Now is the time to face hard jobs that seem like mountains to climb. If something is in the process of being birthed, this Mars gives that push that comes from deep reserves of personal strength and determination. This Mars brings us out of the dark of the New Moon and eclipse, ready to act to make meaningful changes, no matter what it takes. Enjoy your weekend!
