In many ways, we of European descent are somehow cut off from our indigenous roots. And I've long seen Pluto's transit in Capricorn as a path to re-discover the potency of these lineages -- to reanimate the world of matter. It's digging for authentic origins, something ancient and powerful. It's a revival of the real old-time religion.
I came across an inspired interview on Red Ice Radio with author and seeker Robert Tindall, in which he explores the shamanic roots of western culture. It's been awhile since I've heard something that sounded a note of resonance in my own quest for indigenous paths, mainly Celtic. I highly recommend it, and the first hour is free.
He quotes Tolkien talking to C.S. Lewis, in an appeal to perceive the animated universe, "You look at trees and call them trees and probably you do not think twice about the word. You call a star a star and think nothing more of it. But you must remember that these words...tree, star...were in their original forms names given to these objects by people with very different views from yours....(paraphrasing)...to them the universe was alive with mythological beings. They saw the stars as living silver bursting into flame in answer to the eternal music." This became the ode Mythopoeia dedicated to Lewis.Getty Images
