Balsamic (Dark) Moon as Birth Phase

Your Moon Phase

Balsamic comes from the word balsam, a word that means something soothing or restorative. It's a salad dressing, and the name for the restful time of the lunar cycle.

If this is your Moon phase, you're at home in the Dark of the Moon. The waning Moon grows smaller until it's just a sliver, and then darkness. And in that magical liminal in-between, you were born!

The Dark of the Moon is your power time when revelatory ideas come. Unlike those born after the New Moon, you are gifted at reflecting on what's gone before. You could shine as a historical writer or an artist in any medium.

You're not one to rush out into new challenges. But you still may accomplish a great deal from your protected private place. You need a lot of time alone to keep from being overwhelmed and to stay in sync with your own gifts of sight.

End of a Cycle

You're naturally drawn to mysteries, especially the ultimate mystery -- death. Your life purpose is to tie up loose ends and create a nutrient-rich environment for the new to germinate.

You may feel unreal, and in the shadows, since much of what's taken as culture is old hat to you. As a youngster, you might feel like you're going through the motions, that nothing satisfies. You don't sink into the current culture because your role is to distill it into the new.

Your nature is to mix it all in the cauldron, and with the heat, busting open seeds for the new. You live with one eye on the future and are often detached from current events and culture. Your role is to vision the future, out of what's fermented from the past.

You instinctively know there are times to let go of the known, in favor of the unknown. You might be a bit of an introvert, but become animated with those you know intimately.

The Balsamic Moon phase can be associated with Neptune, the planet of imagination, dreams and the loss of illusions (disillusionment).

Initiation

Just as a shaman straddles two worlds, so do you. You may be drawn to the healing arts, and be especially intuitive. As an artist, you create original works that give a first glimpse of the emerging future. Your Moon phase is about ending, but it's there in the womb-like dark, that the new is birthed.

Your Moon phase is an initiation into new ways of being. The old and new overlap, as you resolve the past, and wrap up relationships. You may have a lot of brief ties with specific work to do, before moving on.

In other words, your relationships could be short! And that's been my experience with this Moon phase. Of course, other factors are in play, but the pattern is one of finishing old business and ships passing in the night.

As the old is completed, you catch sight of the new. You may be a visionary seer that is a guide for others across that bridge. That's very valuable in a time of so much natural collapse, unveiling, and revelation.

You're a bit of an outside observer in that way. And yet, you're tuned into the timeless currents, as well.

  • On the Lunar Calendar: 10 ½ days after the Full Moon, up to the New Moon
  • Degree: 315-360 degrees ahead of the Sun. This makes sense too, as the Moon behind the Sun 45 to 0 degrees. Using my own Sun-Moon, I have at 12 degrees Cancer Sun and 11 degrees Gemini Moon. That shows the Moon is approaching the Sun (a New Moon) in the same Zodiac sign.
  • Driving Instincts:  To bring to fruition, tie up loose ends, break down the old, prepare for a new cycle.
