Highs and Lows of the Cancer-Scorpio Love Match

Cancer and Scorpio are signs with mega trust issues. But that shared vulnerability brings out empathy and fosters the atmosphere for something real. These water signs are loving and protective of those they trust. But at first, there are masks that grow stronger paradoxically when someone wants to crack the shell.

The Highs

Cancer can seem defensive or indifferent, puzzling potential suitors. Scorpio intuits the sensitivity behind the facade and becomes intrigued. Cancer in love is shy, responsive, and empathic. Scorpio in love is intense, loving, and enveloping. 

Scorpio is naturally suspicious but soon sees that Cancer's a softy. The Crab knows instinctively that Scorpio needs defenses and doesn't rush in with direct advances. Both signs move into intimacy with sidelong glances and hints of affection.

Scorpio can be wary and brooding. The Moonchild can get lost in a nostalgic movie or nurture melancholy. Some non-water signs sense danger and flee. But courage in matters of the heart is right up cardinal Cancer's alley. Cancer can sense the compressed emotions of Scorpio and admire the self-control that's part of Scorpio's nature.

Both are water signs, so much of what happens is unspoken. During first dates, they read each other's depths. When either has a meltdown, the other knows what they're going through. Scorpio veers into rage more than defensive Cancer, which can turn up as a relationship low.  

But they're kindreds, with shared vices and virtues. They're too emotional and sensitive, taking things ultra personally. Trust is built when they sense the other stands guard over the private world they've created.

The Lows

But when things are bad for Cancer-Scorpio, they're horrid. Neither has much objectivity. When one is losing cool, the other can be the buoy of sanity. But if both are flailing, there can be great extremes. Two lovers in their own worlds may drift apart, especially if they've experienced too much loss.  

Scorpio tends toward revenge, which becomes lethal to the relationship if Cancer feels threatened. The Moonchild can be alarmed by Scorpio's conspiratorial nature. Both signs have long memories and lots of feeling attached to every moment of their lives. It can seem that the relationship is crowded with ghosts.

Cleansing the emotional well is critical. Make sure you're being nourished by cleansing streams. A pitfall of this match, as Linda Goodman concurs in "Love Signs," is that both signs are vulnerable to the "dark arts." The attraction is strong and can be used to bind the other, with psychic pulls and control, and even attacks. 

Cancer can overreact to hints of rejection and go into the shell. Scorpio is susceptible to compulsive feelings of revenge, resentment, judgment, and possessiveness. Scorpio's poison darts can be fatal to the relationship, as far as Cancer is concerned. Once Cancer's trust is lost, it's hard to regain.

But in extremes, we discover our outer edges. In the Scorpio-Cancer relationship, times of emotional intensity come with the package. Some Scorpio-Cancers go to emotional hell and back and are stronger for it.
