Pluto in Sagittarius Poster Boy

It is interesting, as we finally left Pluto in Sagittarius, that it took a Scorpio (Mike Gilbert), to finally get to the truth - in his tell-all book, He did so in order to purge his conscience so he said; but in the grander scheme of things, the timing of this book really does coincide with O.J.’s karmic debt about to come due.

First and foremost, at the time of the murders 14 years ago, the planet Pluto was ingressing into the sign of Sagittarius, which has to do with justice, the legal system - and interestingly enough sports and athletic ability (and in this case, a major sports figure - one O.J. Simpson). The first full day of the murder trial began, one this event reached our legal process, Pluto was at 00 degrees 10 minutes of Sagittarius, only seven days after its ingress into Sagittarius for the first time. O.J. Simpson’s south node is at 01 of Sagittarius.

To me, Pluto brought him and his issues center-stage for the next 14 years while it was transiting through Sagittarius: We, as a society, got a chance to watch, up-close and personal, how our judicial system works, (or didn’t work), in this case. Most felt that justice was not done in this case, and further, how money can buy innocence, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to convict.

When, finally, O.J. faced his second legal situation, Pluto was starting its ingress out of Sagittarius (the 2nd trial actually started the day after Pluto went direct in Sagittarius, for the last time)- and indeed, went into Capricorn for its long stay, in December of 2008, when O.J. received his sentencing for the Las Vegas crimes. The staging of the Las Vegas event was another kind of Pluto in Sagittarius event; its execution was big, and overblown, and extremely klutzy in its design - and frankly pretty silly.

Why was it so important that O.J. get his “stuff” back? Perhaps that stuff represented his former life, which we know he desparately wanted back, at all costs. And I’m sure somewhere in that mind of his, he knew that this type of event would put him back on the front page of the papers. And it did, for all the wrong reasons. By this time, O.J. looked plain silly doing what he did. The sad part of Sagittarius can sometimes mean that one becomes a mockery of oneself.

So, in the end, we had O.J. Simpson at front and center stage of Pluto in Sagittariusm “bookending” if you will, ushering in the era, and finally, climactically, ending it.

Pluto in Sagittarius lessons - some final thoughts. Just what has Pluto in Sagittarius meant for the planet? If we view this one event through that lens, we can see that, on the surface, the extent of how we mythologize our sports figures: That alone, is a searing lesson to many: how many of us grow up with idealizing a figure from afar; how many of those boys are inspired enough to follow in their hero’s footsteps - perhaps not the same career, but using the model of ascent to what they want in life. The psychology of this, it is to be supposed, is to see that heroes are human too and they are just as likely as the rest of us to make mistakes, big and small, along the way.

It was bound to happen - that one of the most well-known and beloved of heros fell from an extremely high to an extremely low place in society. His sports agent, Mike Gilbert, labled him as as mega-pariah - something beyond. Sagittarius, by virtue of the fact that its ruler is Jupiter, would seem to have to fall further than most. The exaggeration of the heroic image, the over-indulgence - indeed, the over-everything, was never more obvious.

Mike Gilbert worshipped O.J. Simpson since he had been about 8 years old, and eventually worked for him. His idealising O.J. got him caught up in what could happen if Sagittarius and Pluto got together: overidentifying with the hero figure, to the point of losing one’s soul. The hero worship issue was broken forever, after Pluto was done in Sagittarius. The destruction was complete and total.
