Learn About Astrocartography, Location Astrology

We all believe there is a special person, job, and place in this world for ourselves. We have had our own unique experiences when we’ve traveled, or moved to a new place. But, how do we explain it when we go to certain places that seem a little more special to us? You know that place - that one when you got off the plane and felt like you just came home, even though you’d never been there before. Or, when we’re drawn to a part of the world to visit because maybe the culture or the people of that place stir something in you, but don’t really know why. And here’s one we all would love: to be in an exotic place and look across the room at a party, and your eyes fall on someone that you instantly fall in love with.

And find that place where we have a fantastically successful career.

All of those things might have happened to us - or COULD happen, if we actually knew where we could actually find those experiences for ourselves in any given part of the world, ahead of time! That could be a huge time-saver if we’re planning a major move for whatever reason. At the very least a very exciting adventure...

Career. Relationships. Schooling, new home, and of course, vacations. - those are the significant reasons for moving. And we have a wonderful tool that can help us with that - astrocartography.

A Brief History of Astrocartography

Astrologer Jim Lewis introduced this new astrology to the astrological world in 1978. According to this relatively new type of astrology, as stated in Lewis’ book Astrocartography: The Book of Maps, “astrocartography enables a person to determine which parts of the natal chart potential will be accented, highlighted, or bought into consciousness in a new location.” Lewis knew, as most astrologers know, that for certain life experiences to be activated, the planet related to that experience would be much more effective if it was sitting on, or around, one of the four angles (ascendant, descendant, Midheaven or IC).

Thus, the chosen life experience would become more front-and-center in the person’s life, and the development and evolution of the person, could accelerate . Lewis also realized that the same effect as being born with a planet angular could be replicated just by moving the person to where a planet ends up on an angle. (When one does move the actual astrology chart to a new location that is some distance away from the birth-place, the chart will rotate, too - a tip here; when relocating your natal chart, do not change the time zone to that location - leave it the same).

What essentially was discovered after looking at many well-known people’s ACG (astrocartography) charts, that it was extraordinary how accurate this science is. So many of them, and us, had and will have major life changes when relocating to a different place. Later on, in this piece, we will look at some well-known ACG maps, and look at how their lives changed using their ACG map as the guide.

Some Fundamentals of Astrocartography

The Map: An astrocartography map is usually the entire planet, but you can also get a map for each hemisphere. There are lines running vertically and horizontally on the map.

The Planetary Lines: Each planet has four positions, the Asc (ascendant), Dsc (Descendant), IC (Immuni coeli), and Medi Coeli, or MC (there are 40 such points, or lines). When viewing the map - which consists of a world map, with the 40 lines over it - there are two types of lines - the IC/MC lines, which run north/south, and the Asc/Dsc lines which curve from east to west. You will also see the planetary notation just above and below the map, itself. For example..PL/MH, would be the place on the map where Pluto would move to the midheaven of your chart.
