Full Moon in Libra

This full Moon (exact on Friday, the 21st at 1:40 pm EDT) is in Libra, a laid-back, gracious sign that knows how to welcome others to the party. As the cardinal air sign, Libra has clear sight into what's "off," and the initiatory spirit to set things right. Libra finds it natural to be paired off, and blend with the energy of another person. That's why this full Moon shines light on the true state of all the big relationships in our lives.

When the Moon is full in Libra, that means the Sun is in Aries, a sign enamored with Self. Seasonally, the Sun's time in Aries is our fresh start, the charging-ahead, the rampant extroversion of Spring. Aries says, "Let's Go!" Fired up and restless to get underway, it's a sign that rushes forward, often blissfully unaware of the needs of others. This yearly opposition sets up an exciting dynamic with the Aries-Libra polarity. To be the most glorified, radiant version of Me, and experiencing that fullness while in the equal, balanced company of We.

The Aries Sun can light a fire under you to be bold and reach for what you want. And the full Moon in Libra may remind you of subtle imbalances in your life. It could be that you've been so focused on the brass ring that key friendships have fallen off from neglect. On the flipside, maybe you've got relationship drama crowding out the need to "do your own thing." Either way, this is a full Moon when those issues come to light.

And if that weren't enough, Mars (in Cancer) and Pluto (in Capricorn) engage the Sun and Moon in a cardinal grand square. This adds a tension between emotionally-charged actions (Mars) and formidable caps and controls (Pluto). Put it all together and it sets up one tall order in relating to others these days. With each being equal, it's a challenge to Be Yourself Boldly (Aries); while in Harmony with Others (Libra); acting with an awareness of the emotional nuances (Cancer); with a commanding sense of self-control and knowledge of physical limitations (Capricorn).

Being in cardinal signs, there's an initiatory dynamic created by this tension. Full Moons are a favorable time to take action on whatever emerged from the New Moon, the last one being in Pisces. You may find yourself simmering with confidence, ready to make real what was dreamt up at the new Moon. The Moon at its peak in Libra lends an instinct for stepping into the new with tact and a sense of timing.

A plethora of planets in Pisces (Venus, Mercury, Uranus) soften the edges of the provocative tensions at this full Moon. It's possible to see beyond the usual roles we play. Through the imagination, we can get a glimpse at the essence of who we are. There are times to initiate (cardinal), and times to surrender to the organic morphing (mutable) that's already underway. It's about changing things in life, but also letting life change you. Spend some time absorbing inspiring art, or soaking in beautiful surroundings this full Moon.

There's a sense of collective change in the air that's hard to deny. What's exciting now is that everything imagined gets the earth-reality shakedown from Saturn (in Virgo) and Pluto, along with a dose of encouragement from Jupiter (in Capricorn). The intense square of cardinal signs at this full Moon calls for a mix of practical and subtle wisdom. It's a balancing act that holds the promise of a big, confident step forward.
