Here's a look at the New Moon/Total Eclipse chart, set for July 21st, at 10:35 EDT.
Well, here we go again. This is the second plunge in the womb waters of this cardinal water sign. Cancer is the sign of the Mother and the ocean out of which we emerge. It'll bring up and out many of the same things experienced during the first New Moon in Cancer on June 22nd.
Every new lunation is a death and rebirth in the cycle. It's a dip into the pool and an emergence; in Cancer these "emergencies" have to do with your real feelings, dependency, comforts, home life, family inheritance, and the memories, fears, longings that drive you (sometimes unconsciously). This New Moon draws us into the rich depths of those emotional-psychic waters. It overtakes us so we have to "deal." We get real with the heart and the emotional reality we're living.
This summer's double whammy draws us into the Cancer undertow; we are submerged in swampy waters of the "past" and our psychic roots from childhood. It comes during the season of eclipses, which heightens the feeling that everything is being torn asunder. During the first New Moon in Cancer, I experienced a painful release of "something" in the abdomen (Cancer) and lower chakras. Intuitively I knew it was just a release of old pain, so I didn't rush to the emergency room. Pluto stands for elimination, and it was in opposition; it felt like a body blow to the stomach. But it was clearly a healing crisis, and not more than I could handle.
Again, this New Moon is forcing out of what's in the emotional-psychic shadows for the collective, and each of us as individuals. The time is right for clearing and healing, which sometimes just means....keep breathing and take a nap.
It sounds so dramatic -- total solar eclipse -- and it promises to be a real turning point. The sense that "something's got to give" has been building. The solar eclipse brings clear endings, and we may see an obvious loss of power for some, to go along with the momentum of "emergence." The ocean of feelings and memories (Cancer) that's been rising to dangerous levels has its own power. The tide will turn. Will the bad guys be put in their place? Stay tuned! And remember...it's always darkest before the dawn.
In this long summer of upheaval, it helps to keep a daily routine of healthy habits (Saturn in Virgo). Every small decision is meaningful now. Every act of integrity makes you stronger.
This New Moon comes at late degree Cancer (29), at the sunny point of near emergence into Leo. And the luminaries (Sun-Moon) are trine to Uranus in Pisces, awakening the creative imagination to unlimited possibilities. It's a chance to be intimate with and honor your personal story, as a path to self-expression for the greater good. It's a New Moon to bring your artistic gifts out and share them with others.
The ancient waters of Cancer are deep, but planets in air signs add the gift of detachment to the scene. Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron in Aquarius send us soaring -- sometimes to fantasy and escapism -- but also to breakthroughs in seeing the 'big picture.' New ways of thinking, living and being are the way out of the old stagnation. Astrologer Cathy Pagano writes, "We still have the power of the Aquarian conspiracy of Neptune, Jupiter and Chiron to lift us to new visions and possibilities. Trust those visions, because your future depends on them. The old ways are dying, and we need to help birth a new society. If you fight it, its like trying to stop labor once its started. It makes it much more painful and it ultimately hurts the baby."
Aquarian energy gives us far-sight to put things into perspective. Hovering above and out of time, we can forgive ourselves for lost potential in this life. We can take a leap toward who we're becoming....the ideal vision of the 'future Self.'
