Divine Ambitions

By Molly Hall, About.com

The new Moon is on December 27th, 7:22 am EST. Click here for the chart.

This is a new Moon to start climbing your personal mountains. Along with the luminaries Sun and Moon, we're looking at Mars, Pluto, Mercury and Jupiter in Capricorn, too. This sign takes the visions of Sagittarius and sees what can be made real. What you're putting effort into, can begin to take off. So, it's a good time to make sure you're creating what you really want. When you combine the Law of Attraction with a realistic assessment of a direction to move in, you can feel some momentum.

It's the achiever sign in Earth school, with its instinctive awareness of the physical world. Capricorn knows that slow and steady wins the race. That anything do-able can be broken down into phases. It's an energy you can use to rein in your focus on the next step.

Let's look at what each of these planets brings to this moment of new beginnings. The red energizer Mars gives the scene a sense of urgency, especially when aligned with the tough love death bringer Pluto. Mars adds vitality, but can also cause frustrations to intensify to the boiling point. Pluto deals with what's toxic, and combined with Mars, can bring an antidote for what's rotten at the core. It sounds nasty, but it's a radar and remedy for real change that's dramatic and irreversible.

It's time to be the captain of your own ship, otherwise you can be tossed about by your own emotions. This transition time is chaotic, and so many are freaking out. Even if you're usually balanced, you can be affected by the churning in the collective. The Capricorn planets are just the right energy to find your internal resolve to find your way.

Some change is beyond our control, and that's often the case with Pluto's handiwork. We may see startling events unfold that amplify a sense of the world breaking down. Capricorn is a sign of order, and we may see more police state kinds of actions, with the aim of creating order out of chaos. But there's a deeper, more ancient Earth order, a power that can come into the foreground. It's the heritage of the natural world, and the longings to live in harmony with that living system. This new Moon aligns us with that power, and can be something to meditate on for real change.

The palpable anxiety around us has its roots in knowing that we're living out of balance with the Earth. With Jupiter in the mix this new Moon, the things that give us faith, are the things that feel enduring, reality-based, hard-won. If it's a daunting road ahead, Jupiter guides with lucky breaks and chance encounters. Watch for the signs of synchronicity that light the way.

With Mercury in Capricorn, we've got the eyes to see what's real and what's not real. That keeps you from wasting your time on things that can't work. The bubbles bursting come to mind, as we're seeing such a hard fall for many. What can you do now to feel like you're standing on solid ground? Mercury gives you some realistic perspective about where you are, on the path to where you want to be.

The teacher Saturn in Virgo forms a supportive trine to the planets in Capricorn. This anchors you in the practical nuts and bolts of the process. My Virgo husband is a disciplined musician that never says 'Good Luck' to someone wanting to learn an instrument. It's not luck; it's practicing, he says. Saturn gives you the daily discipline to move steadily on a productive track.

The other planets and points are in Aquarius - Venus, Chiron, N. Node and Neptune. There's a real sense that it's a time for purposeful relationships, and joining up with kindred spirits. There's an exciting exchange of ideas going on about what kind of future we can create together. Capricorn reaches into the depth of tradition and history, and can remind us of times when we persevered and found inner strength. Aquarius casts into the future for solutions we need today. It's a powerful new Moon for this time of transition, and each person has a role to play. In the quiet of the new Moon, you can get guidance, visions, messages, about your unique gifts, talents, resources.

In the Season of Light, it's a powerful new Moon to move toward visions that make this world more compassionate and stable. It's also an incredible opportunity to boost your personal ambitions. There's true magic where these two come together. Any intentions you set at that divine intersection will likely find footing AND soar this new Moon.
