Here's the New Moon chart for October 17/18th, 2009.
A Window on the PossibleThe two luminaries (Sun, Moon) are in Libra at this New Moon. That brings a rush of fresh air to clear our minds. It gives us special Libra equilibrium goggles, that show us how we're doing in relationships. It sharpens our vision of what's needed to bring more love, peace and beauty into our lives.
Libra is the sign of balance, but in a world of constant change, we reach that only in brief moments. The New Moon chart shows four cosmic bodies (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus) in Libra. So it's a moment when the lunar light goes out, and in the Void of the Dark Moon, we can have flashes of the way things ought to be. With cardinal Libra, we grow agitated to see our ideas made manifest. The New Moon can be a big moment where these ideas are pulled out of the dark of the spirit and imagination.
Libra's visions are ideals of fairness, justice and everyone getting along. It brings pictures of pleasure and transcendent art, music and fine food and wine. It's a New Moon that can lift us out of the dregs of negativity, so we see that another world is possible. What would your ideal life look like? What steps can you take to make it a reality?
The stellium in Libra makes it an excellent time to call in your beloved or a new friend. What kinds of qualities do you want to develop now? Courage? Creativity? Humor? Look for friends that reinforce these qualities! Venus is in Libra, an auspicious placement for early dating, since it's so romantic and respectful. You can get a clear idea of who you're attracting and why. Perhaps the New Moon is a time to commit to developing the qualities in yourself that you project onto others.
The QuickeningLooking at the New Moon chart, the Sun-Moon-Mercury in Libra are in criss crossing trines to Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius. Both are conceptualizing air signs, making this an invitation for an urgent global Brainstorm. Whatever vision we hold in our minds this New Moon goes out like a wave on Jupiter's expansive currents. Neptune is transcendent imagination, getting us thinking way, way, way out of the box. This dynamic of planets in Libra-Aquarius allows for elevated, surprising, mind-blowing thoughts to break through.
Let's lose our cynicism, hopelessness and worry now, and let miracles happen that change our minds, and thus, our world. Our old ways of seeing things can shatter like glass. Jupiter in Aquarius brings the sudden awakenings, ideas spreading at the speed of light, quantum leaps....the kind of urgent shifts that can change everything. The theme of considering the needs of the many, over the needs of the few becomes big in everyone's mind. It's a chance to vision and consider how we can bring human values back to the foundation of our world.
The New Moon can bring entrepreneurial ideas from out of nowhere. You might meet some enterprising people, and decide to join their project. It starts with an ignition of the mind, but an idea that comes now can have great propelling force. And as metaphysicians everywhere say, matter follows energy. And where we put our thoughts is where we're putting our energy.
This trine formation brings together the Aquarius ability to think at the leading edge, with Libra's self -starting energy. It's a time to meditate not on the breakdown but on the emergence. It reminds me of the last line I read last night before going to sleep, from the book Serpent of Light, Beyond 2012 by Drunvalo Melchizedek. He writes: "Do not look into Kali's eyes. But put your attention on the budding life and light in the center of the vortex." Kali is the Hindu Goddess of Death, so he's referring to the trauma of the old world falling apart. The New Moon sets the stage to focus on what's emerging.
Shine Your LightThe New Moon chart shows Mars (action) in Leo (creativity). Mars in Leo is heart-led, courageous and dynamic. It makes a square to the Sun-Moon in Libra, asking us to take risks with our self-expression. We have to get past just passively being entertained, to finding our own star potential. It's yet another cosmic provocation, to actively join in the creation of our world. This can also bring creative confidence, making it a good time to jumpstart your art.
Freedom vs. ControlThe two contentious heavyweights are still in a wide orb opposition with Uranus in Pisces and Saturn in Virgo. It's the ongoing theme of the status quo (Saturn) vs. the chaos of heart awakening (Uranus). There's something going on that's wild and unpredictable, and has a mystical component. But there's a counter force that reacts to chaos by fearfully grasping onto the known. The shattering of old paradigms comes when we bravely own up to fears that keep us in rigid thinking. All this adds up to it being an unsettling, but exciting time to be alive!
Time to See with New EyesThere's a sense of urgency to come up with new solutions now, and join forces with those that want to see a life-sustaining society. This would include transforming our institutions (government, corporations) so they reflect the human values. From my vantage point, it appears that very powerful global entities are making a play for total control. Pluto in Capricorn is a transit that invites us to consider hidden hands and shadow governments. When you discover the truth that many world leaders have the same agenda, then the steps toward surveillance and ever-increasing control, make sense.
We truly live in an epic time, when humanity is at a crossroads. This New Moon invites us to quiet our minds and listen for higher guidance. It invites us to call on all our spiritual resources, to keep our eyes on "the budding life and light at the center of the vortex." The lofty planets in Aquarius trigger in us the remembrance of our role to play to jettison humanity forward in its evolution. It's a time to commit to feeding your mind the things that elevate it, and keep you hopeful about the future.
