Mercury Libra: Mercury Signs

Mercury in Libra guys and gals are flip floppers. They're often heard saying, "On the other hand...."

This can make them seem indecisive. But, it's also a gift, because they synthesize things, and are able to walk in others' shoes. They might not change their minds as much as fellow airy Mercury Gemini, but when they do, it's often simply part of their process. They swing this way and that, and try on ideas, and then see which one feels right.

Sometimes they play Devil's Advocate, just to be contrary, or to make a point that nothing is just one way. They are generally fair, and could be the one that settles disputes in your circle. 

Mercury Libra is a visionary (cardinal) and don't like to be censored or thrown off balance. Libra has the strong will of Aries, but is also able to sync with others, and come to creative compromises. 

This mercurial sort is chatty, as all air sign Mercury's are. I wrote about my own loquacious husband, and blurting out for him to stop talking! He surprised me by responding that, oh yes, he knew he had gone beyond the "magic point" with his talking. That made me laugh, and that's the kind of clarity Libra brings to the table, too.

This is where their reputation for diplomacy comes from. Sometimes they're elevated to the status of official peacemaker, known to be able to bring harmony to chaos. Because they often have an innate sense of fairness, it's easier for conflicting parties to trust their intentions.

This same gift of seeing all the options and sides can make them indecisive, which can be exasperating to those around them. The delay comes from wanting to weigh the pros and cons carefully, to follow the best course. But if they take too long to decide, sometimes an opportunity passes them by.

Balance and Conflict

Mercury in Libras love harmony so much, that at times they'll run around conflict to avoid it. This can create all kinds of neuroses and confusing relations with others. It comes from an actual fear of the boat being rocked, since that state makes them very uncomfortable. A challenge is learning that it's okay to disagree and that a lot of friction can be tolerated in a relationship when there's a basic respect.

On the other hand, the flip side of the balance is provocation, and Libra's disrupt the equilibrium at times, too. This would be someone who is argumentative because they need that friction to play off constantly. Their ability to dance on both sides of an issue can create an inner conflict, like dueling viewpoints going on in their minds. 

Many with this Mercury need the feedback of others to know their own mind. One trait that spins off this is the constant need for a response. They are often filling the air with a running commentary, which is exhausting to more reflective types.

Mercury in Libra are synthesizers and bridge builders, whether its merging people or ideas, as with writers born under this Mercury sign. As an air sign, there's a clarity of thought that allows them to be the big picture people.

And being cardinal, the initiative is there to actively assert their ideas into the world. They may restore balance in every area of life they touch -- from their own personal sphere to the public stage through activism, social justice, the Arts, writing, speaking, etc.
