Saturn in Virgo

Saturday September 1, 2007

On the eve of Saturn's move into Virgo, the Great Teacher bids farewell to the sobered up, but always regal Lion. Leo planets got a working over, and hopefully, some substance to go with the flash. Restraint, limitation, discipline -- these are what Saturn brings to a planet it transits. What you end up with is the kind of unshakable confidence from knowing you got there the hard way.

When an outer planet crosses into a new constellation, it's an astrological big deal that can influence the culture at large. Along the Zodiacal path, Virgo is the integration of all previous signs, and as the Virgin, is self-contained. Virgo's desire to serve comes not from a desire to be a servant, but because work fulfills an inner sense of purpose, and is a daily catharsis.

Work, routine, habits, health -- all these are the province of busybody Virgo. The pressure of having the Taskmaster here may make us more neurotic, hypochondriacal, fearful, etc. Thinking optimistically, Saturn in Virgo inspires healthy living, right livelihood and moderation. Perhaps Americans will get a handle on obesity, reign in debt and start turning to organic products. Saturn in Virgo will push for holistic answers to the world's ills, and inspire each person to use their natural gifts to serve others.
