2012 as the Still Point
Hearing John Major Jenkins talk about 2012 makes me think it's going to be the Mother of all Dark Moon periods. A time to surrender, and give in to the forces of cosmic evolution. The Mayans knew it would open up all of humanity to the energies of what they called, the Cosmic Womb, at the center of the galaxy. The alignment of 2012, says JMJ, is a still point to "transcend time and get a glimpse of the great wisdom." The interview I've linked to below gives you an overview of the Mayan calendar, the astronomical alignment of 2012, and ancient wisdom about the cycles of time. Here are some notes I took away, but be sure to check it out yourself.
- In Mayan legend, the Solar Lord (Winter Solstice Sun) unites with the Cosmic Mother in the center of the Milky Way galaxy, to signal the end of the 26,000 year cycle, and transition to the new.
- It's a collective moment to come back into union with the Divine Self.
- Great extremes of polar push-pull, "us vs. them" thinking will reach crazymaking levels. The middle way, walking between the two extremes, is the path of the future.
- The shadows in our civilization and personalities are coming out of the closet to be integrated.
- Other cultures tuned in to the cycles of time, notably the Native American elders, have offered their wisdom to the wider world.
- The spiritual degradation we're seeing is the climax of an extended dark age, and part of a natural cycle.
- The choice of how to deal with the trauma of upheaval is one between fear or love.
- If we surrender to the transformative energies of 2012, we will survive and remake the world anew.
After writing books and lecturing for many years on 2012, John Major Jenkins says he's come full circle. Through his own spiritual practice, he hopes to model how anyone can tune into the powerful energies there in the cosmic void between the ages. "There's going to be a lot of noise," he says. "My hope is to be a voice of clarity."

I had read 2012 The Return of Quetzalcoatl.
by journalist Daniel Pinchbeck and heard a lecture by him at a local bookstore. My friend and I were struck that so many in the audience were asking questions that Pinchbeck as a change agent was not equipped to and wisely declined to answer. He was raising themes. I am very grateful for this blog to making it so easy to find some accessible answers that some in the group had gathered that rewarding evening to hear DP were perhaps unconsciously hoping to find that evening. This is a rich post with the smart summary of such nicely vetted information. It will be a pleasure to spend a few mornings over morning coffee catching up on the themes that I first heard articulated by Jose Arguelles in The Mayan Factor so many years ago around the time of the Harmonic Convergence and view the videos and other links.
Thank you Moira,
I was pleasantly surprised to find in John Major Jenkins a scholar who is also coming from the spiritual perspective, and has wisdom to share about that. It’s so simple in the end, staying in the heart, no matter what. I love hearing the wise elders and shamans talking, because they see things in such eternal terms. Last night, I watched a video called 2012 The Odyssey. At the end, the Q’ero shamans of Peru were there with a message that we’re becoming more than human. We’re to become what they call Homo Luminous. Those words sounded so optimistic, and I know you’re a Sadge, so might like that, too.
love to read of all things related to heart wisdom. so easy to become glazed over like a hardened crystalized pear…frozen into a routine of coporate money making emptyitude
i am excited by this window of time
intense, yes…but cosmically ALIVE if one is willing to live with less fears
i am becomging more mindful of fearing less, expecting less, giving more, opening more
thanks for your postings and wonderful insights molly
