It makes commonsense to have the basics put by in this uncertain time. It can also link us to family traditions of self-reliance.
One lesson I've learned is to buy and store things you already eat, not "survival food." You might start a hobby like beekeeping, where the end result is something sweet to trade or gift to neighbors.
