Writings Inspired by God

The Bible is filled with tons of information that was inspired by God. We also need to honestly look at the fact that there are many inspired writings at that time that were not included in the Bible. Even some writings were discovered later such as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Gnostic Gospels. There are many verses in the Bible that can be interpreted differently by each of us. I think it is funny how many people will take all the verses about astrology literally that are negative. While many people ignore the verses that say God created astrology for his people.

In Genesis 1:14-15 it states, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as SIGNS to mark the seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the Earth.” This verse describes tropical astrology that is based on the seasons of the year and the signs it talks about are often interpreted as the twelve zodiac signs. God created the universe and even Jesus stated, “There shall be signs in the Sun, Moon and Stars. He never told the disciples not to interpret the stars.

A Woman Clothed with the Sun

In the book of Revelation 12:1 it reads, “And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.” ]Interestingly, this verse can be interpreted in many ways. The sun and moon are mentioned and the twelve stars could represent the twelve astrological signs. In Revelation 6-8 it describes the four fixed signs of the zodiac which are Leo and lion, Taurus the ox, Aquarius the face of a man, and Scorpio as the ancient symbol of the Eagle. It says, “And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind. The first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is an is to come!” The four fixed signs of the zodiac are described here as signs in the sky just as Jesus taught the disciples in the book of Luke. Also, I find it interesting that the four astrological signs worshipped God in the verse. Why is this revealed if astrology was not part of God’s creation and message of “signs” for us to be aware of?

On Psychics and Prophecy

There are many verses in the Bible that condemn mediums and psychics. In 2 Kings 21:6 it states, “Manasseh even sacrificed his own son in the fire. He practices sorcery and divination, and he consulted with mediums and psychics. He did much that was evil in the Lord’s sight, arousing anger.” Jesus taught that we are not supposed to judge others or take vengeance or persecute others. He sacrificed his own son only because he consulted mediums and psychics. This man took literally what was written down in the Old Testament causing him to murder his own son. “Thou shall not kill.” This is opposite of what Jesus taught although interpretation led to action. Many people betrayed Jesus even though all he did was love them. They interpreted his words as a threat and did not believe what he said.

First of all, how do we know that psychics and mediums are not truly prophesying? The Bible speaks of the gift of prophecy and speaking in tongues. How do we know that this is not inspired by God? How can we know that psychics are false? We label people that are different or that can see the future as “psychic” but in reality they could be blessed with the gift of prophecy. In Numbers 12:6, it states, “If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.” Many “mediums” and “psychics” dream things that happen in the future; they see the future and know things that should be unknowable.

Messages of Wisdom

I have experienced dreams myself that predicted the future. I did not try to know things or plan them but these dreams simply came to me. I am no prophet, but I do ask God to help me to help others. I know that God works in mysterious ways and if there is something we can use for the good to help others heal and validate their life experiences; it should be taken seriously and not misjudged. When I would have flashes of intuition and precognitive dreams, I would hide them. I felt like no one would take them seriously. It was not until I was older that I embraced my experiences as important and began to share them with others. I learned to only share dreams that I felt inside my heart were okay to share or when it felt right. I learned how to be subtle and word things in a non-threatening way as to not spook the person.

I found comfort in the verses in 1 Corinthians 12 “To each person the manifestation of Spirit is given for the benefit of all. For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit. To another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit. To another performance of miracles and to another prophecy. To another discernment of spirits and to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. It is the one and the same Spirit distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.”

The Bible even goes on to say that he who can prophecy is greater than he who speaks in tongues. The definition of prophecy is “a prediction of the future, foretelling things to come, prediction, inspired message under divine inspiration.” The definition of a psychic is “lying outside the sphere of physical science or knowledge; immaterial, moral, or spiritual in origin or force.” Although verses in the Bible condemn psychics and mediums 1 Corinthians talks about prophecy. Prophecy can be interpreted the same way as we interpret the abilities of someone who claims to be “psychic”.
