This year's Virgo Full Moon is on February 25th, 3:26 pm (Eastern). Find your time with the World Clock Converter.
What stands out about the Full Moon Chart is cosmic mixology with mutable signs a plenty. Jupiter the planet of surprise optimism, is in a T-square to the Sun (Pisces) and Moon (Virgo). This is a shake up, to what's been. And with four planets in Pisces making reality very fluid and bendy, the excitement of change is in the air!
The magic of mutable signs is the ability to shift shape. So Jupiter's infusion of faith comes at the Full Moon, when we see ways to adapt here, soften there, firm up here.
The mutable phase in each trio (cardinal, fixed, mutable) is the time of rearranging, loosening the fixed hold on how things have been. Here we get a mood lift, when we're flexible, and able to let old mindsets dissolve -- tolerating the void like uncertainty -- as a new awareness dawns.
There can be a playful trickster vibe at the Full Moon. Jupiter in Gemini, Mercury's sign, with a retrograde in play, is game to pique our curiosity. The adventure here, with Jupiter, is to find momentum, by being able to swiftly process new input from all around. With Mercury retrograde in Pisces, the field of perception is very open. The messages of Mercury could be far-out, mystical, weird or trigger a series of epiphanies.
Jupiter squares the Virgo Full Moon, for a highlight of the mind-body connection -- how are thoughts, and what you digest affecting your body? The Sun is engaged, in Pisces, for spiritual vitality -- heeding the messages of the soul (in dreams, knowings).
Consistent PracticesIn a time like ours, what practices are effective, in this process of accelerated change? It's not about being perfect, with perfectionism being a Virgo peccadillo. For me, it's enough to keep coming back to what works, and doing my best, while not flogging myself (there's a Celtic punk band called Flogging Molly, by the way). This is a Full Moon of potential breakdowns or meltdowns. And sometimes that's exactly what's needed in the moment -- to fall apart. Be gentle with yourself, yet firm about staying healthy. It's said that mutable signs need a guiding hand -- be that guiding hand for all that's in motion.
Many are experiencing rising inner tides -- the material of the psyche is surfacing. This Full Moon brings home the reality that it's useful (and a lifesaver) to have a basket of strategies that work in different situations. This is a time to experiment, listening to the soul's promptings, on what will aid in the integration process. What gives you confidence, to ride the waves, and even if you're knocked down, find your center again?
Virgin Land, The SeedThe Full Moon is in Virgo, who is often depicted as an earth goddess, and maiden of the harvest. The Sun is in Virgo in September, and that's when we glean what's been sown in the Spring and Summer. But the roots of Virgo as earth goddess, holding an ear of corn, is traced to ancient Mesopotamia, according to Deborah Houlding of Skyscript UK.
Houlding writes of Virgo the Maiden that the Mesopotamians would have placed most significance upon the time that the full Moon illuminated its stars during the Sun's transit of Pisces. For the Mesopotamians this occurred in early spring, just as the first signs of corn appeared above the ground. Thus the Babylonian reference for the constellation was Ab Sin, 'the Furrow', depicting the virgin land about to bear its fruit."
And this is the thing -- Virgo star lore is about both the harvest and the virgin land, where the seed is germinating. Writes Houlding, "Some have argued that the constellation depicts 'the woman and her seed,' with the palm branch being seen as an ancient symbol for the seed."
With so much mutable energy in play now, what are the elements needed to thrive? What combo from the infinite choices available take you where you want to go?
Coming to Your SensesBoth Virgo and Gemini are signs of the nervous system, and being sensitively wired to the environment all around. Here there's an exact square to Jupiter in high-strung Gemini, from the luminaries (Sun and Moon). There can be mutable madness, a chaos that can be creative or destructive. What are behaviors that signal that you're spinning out? What practices help you shape shift the chaos, without adding to the tension?
If you're antsy, what activities make you feel productive? This could be a great time for an early spring clean of the closet or garage. Release and clear out, glean what's current from the piles of stuff, and give away the rest. Make space for Spring and what's emerging.
The Beauty of the SmallAt the Full Moon, we're invited to manifest with sure-footedness, from a real grounded awareness. Virgo is a sign of presence, and one that observes the smallest details. A great expansion happens now from being here now -- in your body, where you are. A great renewal comes from letting go of what keeps you from settling in, and knowing the power of presence.
What strikes to the nervous system cause you to escape from being present? This can be a time of clearing, simplifying and purifying. You become the Virgin, whole-unto-herself (or himself), able to take in new experiences, and be changed by them.
To see a World in a Grain of Sand,And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.
William Blake
