Full Moon in Virgo

The full Moon is in Virgo, a sign that has a devotion to the small, as the pieces of the holy bigger picture. It's a sign that enables us to diagnose what's wrong with a system. This Moon may present a bleak picture, with Saturn's (in Virgo) weight there in a conjunction. The illumination we get at the full Moon could be a heavy dose of what needs healing.

Saturn reminds us of limits and restrictions. Since it's paired with the full Moon, it may be revealed that the door to a certain way of being is closing. When doors close, it's Saturn's way of asking us to find another way. In this case, the limitations have to do with our life within nature's processes, and a great need to open a new door. Living in an illusion that we're separate from the Earth's processes is making us sick. And Saturn is going to mess with the status quo, the one that has grown rigidly wed to a system out of balance.

It's time to find the virginal soil under Saturn's rigid concrete. In the future, perhaps we will literally break up the concrete of parking lots and liberate the landscape. In the here and now, how can we replenish our garden plot, at home or in our neighborhood, so it sustains life. In what ways it is undernourished? It's an ideal full moon to take action that makes you feel as fresh and born anew. The virgin is self-contained and a wholly sovereign being. What steps can you take to reclaim your original wholeness? How can you live with more integrity? If you've come to the end of the line with an addiction or bad habit, now is a good time to commit to your own renewal.

A major feature of this full Moon is the opposition of Saturn and the Moon in Virgo, to the Sun-Uranus in Pisces. On the one side, Saturn-Moon is pulling us toward reality and living in a grounded, realistic way within our limits. And then there's Uranus in Pisces, which is a mass mesmerizer that shows us possibilities beyond what's seen in the visible world. Events happen that awaken the heart and imagination, and are reminders that we are One in some way that goes beyond words.

In her book, Making the Gods Work for You, Caroline Casey writes, As prophecies and predictions rise, remember to vote for reality with your imagination. Neptune instructs us to honor dark likelihoods not by ignoring them, but rather by using them as catalytic incentives to dream up something more desirable. To me, it's apt for this precarious moment in time. Because even as things look dire, there's a crackle of excitement about possibilities. Many planets in visionary Aquarius (Jupiter, Neptune, Mars) link us to a higher mind, so that we're seeing from a thrilling observation deck.

The Sun and Uranus makes things come alive, so we're restless to try some of these newfangled innovations. It inspires independent action, not waiting for the "authority" to change, but taking matters into your own hands. Aquarius inspires us to live our ideals, and join with others to put visions into reality. Ultimately, it means stop looking to leaders for answers or help, since those Saturnian doors are closing. Neptune and Uranus are greater cosmic powers that take us one step beyond Saturn's boundaries, and show us that the answer lies in coming together. We can experiment (Aquarius) in communities in ways that restore our sanity and balance to the planet.

A theme here is Uranus making a break for it, even as we work with the medium of Saturn's "reality." This is egged on by Venus in Aries in retrograde, which gets us in the mode of active creating. How much creativity is lost as we passively stare at a small box in the living room? If you're feeling unfulfilled, the surges of Aries in the sign of self-expression can get your creative momentum going again. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone took charge of their creative life! Now is a great time to see what visions are stirring in there, and find outlets to coax them into life.

My sense is that now is the time to position yourself for rough seas ahead. Take Saturn's limits seriously, and do what you can to be self-sufficient. But it's not a time to go it alone, and the planets support spontaneous community building. The reality show of Pluto and Saturn in earth signs forces us to get real fast. But it's entering along with an unveiling, the flashes of lightning in the night that allow us to see startling things! This full Moon brings that tension to a peak, so that we might ground the visions and make them real.
