New Moon in Sagittarius

Kim Hattaway

Here's the chart for the new Moon at 6 degrees Sagittarius, exact on November 27th, at 11:55 am EDT).

It's time for visions of Now, and visions of the future, with four planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury) in spirit-expanding Sagittarius. We can see beyond the ordinary, and open to life as an adventure where there's always more to learn, do and experience. The prospects of economic hard times is so stressful and it's easy to get paralyzed by fear. But shattering change creates openings, that weren't there before. This new Moon fires up the imagination, so that those pictures shine more brightly, and give us hope. From there, it's a journey to seeing how much of that idealized vision can be made into reality.

If we trust life (a Sagittarius trait), these critical times of change can be seen as an experiment. It could be likened to traveling to a foreign country, where you're learning the language as you go. It's thrilling and can be dangerous, too, where you have no idea what will come around the next corner. With old paradigms crumbling, we're all now explorers of the new, creating the future as we go. With trust, we can realize that we're meant to live through all this. Some are feeling triggered, like they've prepared for this their whole lives. How we respond is the key, not what happens. This new Moon is a great one for resolving to fully rise to the challenge.

Sagittarius is about the quest for knowledge and truth. And it's so clear to me that people everywhere are waking up to a broader vision of who we are, and what's possible. It's been likened to remembering, rather than learning. Fields of knowledge that were hidden are coming to light. The pieces of human knowledge are being woven together into a big picture that illuminates the human story in a new way. Many researchers are thinking holistically, and merging disciplines, and thats leading to revelatory dot-connecting. The forward-looking Horizon Project, for example, has theories on a pending pole shift, due to their inter-disciplinary work in fields like astronomy, underwater archeology (lost civilizations) and the natural sciences. It's exciting to experience the doors of perception opening, because what they reveal adds to hope for the future.

What's happening now could be called an awakening to our divine potential. You can see beyond limiting narratives, if you step out of the box. The truth is, there is no box. And that's freeing. What's being revealed can be inspiring, if we realize we're part of something magnificent across time. When the late scholar Terrence McKenna found out he was dying, he said, It makes life rich and poignant. When it first happened, and I got these diagnoses, I could see the light of eternity, a la William Blake, shining through every leaf. I mean, a bug walking across the ground moved me to tears. The uncertainty of the future, with so much falling apart, makes us exquisitely present to the moment. Life on a dying planet with dying paradigms is an intense, searing experience. Like those facing the mortal end, it wakes us up, so we can live in the vivid eternal now.

Another theme here is kindred spirits, coming together to form purposeful connection. It's the first lunation with Pluto in Capricorn, and the little power planet is conjunct Jupiter and Venus. You can look to support from those that sustain you on every level. It's a good time to commit to your kind of community. The structure-builder Saturn is trine to Jupiter-Venus, and the awakener Uranus is sextile to Jupiter-Venus. That makes this a powerful new Moon to reach out, see what kinds of connections you can make.

Security and stability in an uncertain world are in the spotlight. Times like this can cause us to get real fast, and that authenticity will guide you to a kindship group. Whether you're in a big city or small town, be open to swift leaps toward re-weaving the social web. It's Thanksgiving week in America, a holiday that's about reflecting on the abundance of the harvest, and being grateful for family and friends. It's a chance to return to simple, honest truths about what has value (Capricorn). At the same time, the stellium in Sagittarius infuses the atmosphere with hope, based on these panoramic views of who we are across time.

As the new Moon approaches, let your passions guide you. After all, what do you have to lose? How can you speak more truthfully, and live more authentically? The fire of Sagittarius can burn away what's false, and free you to move swiftly toward your dreams. Trust in the serendipities that come your way. Pay attention to dreams and waking visions. The new Moon can be a fresh start. Let it be a new beginning for the remarkable spirit you know you were born to be.
